Gassin sits on the highest ridge of the Saint-Tropez peninsula, looking south over the Gulf and east over Pampelonne. It is one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France — a designation that protects medieval architecture and limits development. The commune itself is sprawling: it includes the hilltop village, the vineyards to the west, the Polo Club de Saint-Tropez on the Route du Bourrian, and the residential roads down towards Cogolin marina.
For villa-renters, Gassin is the half-way address: ten minutes to Saint-Tropez, ten minutes to Pampelonne, five minutes to the Polo Club, five minutes to Beauvallon Golf. The countryside is real, not styled.
The village. Plus Beaux Villages designation means the hilltop is preserved as it was: narrow cobbled streets, the Place dei Barri lookout, three village restaurants, one boulangerie that bakes from 06:00. The view from the church terrace — over Pampelonne to the open Mediterranean — is the most photographed sunset on the peninsula.
The countryside. Gassin commune is large and only partly built up. Most villas sit on plots of 5,000–20,000 m² with mature pines, oaks, and olive trees. Privacy and quiet are easier here than anywhere else on the peninsula at the same price-point.
The activities. The Polo Club de Saint-Tropez (high-goal polo July/August), Beauvallon Country Club (18-hole golf course, tennis, swimming pool), and Domaine de la Pierre Plantée (one of the larger Gassin wineries) are all inside the commune. Pampelonne and Saint-Tropez are both 10 minutes by car — close enough for daily, far enough for sleep.

Yes — Gassin is an official member of ‘Les Plus Beaux Villages de France’, the national association that protects exceptional medieval villages. The designation limits new construction inside the village walls and protects the cobbled streets, original architecture, and panoramic terraces.
Both Pampelonne (Club 55, L’Épi, Loulou) and Saint-Tropez Vieux Port are 10 minutes by car from a Gassin villa. Cogolin marina is 6 minutes; Sainte-Maxime is 20 minutes via the road around the Gulf.
Yes. The Polo Club de Saint-Tropez is in the Gassin commune, on Route du Bourrian. Matches run Wednesday and Saturday in summer (June through October). The clubhouse restaurant is open to non-members on match days.
Generally yes. Gassin commune is the largest and least developed of the peninsula’s villa areas. Plots are large (5,000-20,000 m²) and traffic is sparse outside high-summer weekends. Villas near the Polo Club may have polo-match noise on Wednesdays and Saturdays in season.
No — Gassin is an inland commune and all beach access requires a car. Pampelonne is 10-12 minutes by car. The closest sandy beach to the village is Bertaud (small, southern Gulf shore) at 15 minutes.
