Ramatuelle — Villa rentals above Pampelonne and around the southern coves

Ramatuelle is the hilltop village ten minutes inland of Pampelonne, with a much wider rural commune that stretches from the L’Escalet coves in the south to the back of Bonne Terrasse in the north. Where Saint-Tropez is the harbour town and Pampelonne is the beach, Ramatuelle is the peninsula proper — vineyards, pine forest, single-lane roads, and the wild stretches of coast that the Conservatoire du Littoral has preserved.

Cyrus International curates villas across Ramatuelle’s three sides: the slopes above Pampelonne (5–10 minutes to the beach clubs), the village (cobbled streets, two-Michelin-star La Vague d’Or sister addresses), and the southern coves around L’Escalet, Cap Camarat and l’Oumède.

Why Ramatuelle

Three reasons people come back to Ramatuelle, not Saint-Tropez.

The view. From most Ramatuelle hillsides you see the whole Pampelonne bay, with Sainte-Maxime and the Estérel as a backdrop. Sunsets behind the Maures mountains are visible from villa terraces — something Saint-Tropez village itself, tucked inside the harbour, doesn’t offer.

The quiet. Ramatuelle has a 2,300-resident village. There is one main square, a Saturday morning market, a Thursday-evening farmers’ market in July and August, and an open-air theatre festival in late July. There is no traffic noise. The coves at L’Escalet are reachable on foot or by car-and-walk and have only seasonal lifeguards — not beach clubs.

The wine. Ramatuelle is the heart of the AOC Côtes de Provence Saint-Tropez subzone. Domaine de la Tourraque, Domaine de la Rouillère, Domaine de la Madrague, Domaine de Pampelonne and Domaine Bertaud-Belieu all run cellar-door tastings within ten minutes of any Ramatuelle villa.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ramatuelle a good base for visiting Saint-Tropez and Pampelonne?

Yes. Ramatuelle is 5-10 minutes by car from Pampelonne beach clubs and 15 minutes from the Vieux Port of Saint-Tropez, while offering significantly more quiet, better views, and lower traffic. Many returning guests prefer Ramatuelle over staying in Saint-Tropez itself.

Are there beaches in Ramatuelle?

Ramatuelle commune includes most of Pampelonne’s southern half (Bonne Terrasse, Bonne Aventure) and the wilder coves of L’Escalet and Cap Camarat. L’Escalet is sandy + rocky with no beach clubs — just a seasonal lifeguard and a single kiosk.

What is there to do in Ramatuelle village?

A cobbled hilltop village with a Saturday market, an open-air theatre festival in late July, three or four village restaurants, and an art gallery in the medieval ramparts. The village itself takes 30 minutes to walk; the surrounding vineyards offer cellar-door tastings.

How far is L’Escalet from a Ramatuelle villa?

Most Ramatuelle villas are within 5-10 minutes by car of L’Escalet beach. A handful of villas near the south of the commune have walking access to the cove path.

Do Ramatuelle villas have sea views?

Many do — the hillsides above Pampelonne and around l’Oumède look out across the bay to Sainte-Maxime and the Estérel. Villas in the village or in the southern vineyards may not have a sea view but are walking distance to the cliff paths.
